Angry Walkin’!

Another drawing for ya. Why not, eh? the shading colour was originally a light green in tribute to Ghost World by Daniel Clowes – my favourite graphic novel of all time – but it didn’t look quite right, so after going through every hue that the visible spectrum has to offer, I resigned to boring ol’ grey. Hey, you win some, you lose some.

I wrote some music today as well, which is just awesome. I’m working on a lot of projects right now and am going through a very productive period (as you can probably tell from all the blogging I’ve been doing) – expect Amateur Lovemaking Monthly ed. 4 out soon!*

Whenever I have a spare moment, I sit down and draw something tricky to draw, like a dishcloth covering a hedgehog, or I write some music or fiddle with some sounds. So I have a question for you guys – what do you all like to do in your spare time?

Tom

*the Monthly is a lie. You already knew this though.

Don't be dissing on grayscale! I've been using it for over a year now and it's served me QUITE well*. >:]
…spare moment? what is this “spare moment” you speak of? I do not know what this means.

somehow there is some subtle movement in that emotion (I mean, beyond just walking) and I like it much… though it is again an “Indie Kid!”…? let's have some HEDGEHOGS! or, ya' know, mummified pumpkin turtles or something… rawr.
aaaakh I was once able to make lettuce heads look to be dancing… movement in a still = :)

*though, tbh, I am now slightly fearful/overwhelmed by the prospect of color… ooooooh ironic iris… :(

…all attempts at correcting grammar have been thrown out the window. …I shall soon be thrown out the window.

Do you have said drawing of a dishcloth covering a hedgehog? That's interesting. I make duct tape wallets xD

In my spare time… hmm.
The time I don't waste away reading the QOTW or watching back old “suggested videos” or playing minesweeper, the ones where I'm actually productive and not doing a jigsaw (which actually I rather enjoy so what if I sound 90 instead of 19) I like to make beaded jewellery. With wire or expensive thread and those tiny delicate glass beads and weave them together into the patterns I learned. But to be honest I like watching films and being with my boyfriend so much that when I'm not doing coursework the beads get ignored. *sigh*

Some days I wish Uni was over already (even though I've only had a term) and I could have TIME. But to be honest I have the time I just don't use it wisely.

While writing this comment I am procrastinating BUT it has inspired me to make more use of my time.

XD

In my free time I like to fiddle on photoshop (: I'm a lot like you with the drawing, I've spent years learning to use it and make lovely things on it but I never really do anything with those things. It mostly just gets shoved on my deviantart account and forgotten. But I've started making little pictures and things for my friends, which is nice. One of the more recent ones was a christmas card featuring you singing a christmas carol, actually =D from 'the indie book of christmas carols vol. 4 lolololol'. Because I'm witty and original >_<

In my spare time i like to play around on my guitar :)
i love playing my guitar, it kind of calms me. im not that great at making good tunes yet because most of them turn out sounding pretty much the same, but i have one or two :)
i do this or i watch you, alex, charlie, jimmy and johnny on youtube :D
yet, my spare time seems to be becoming smaller due to the amounts of coursework im getting.
damn. ah well. and your quite right, you win some, ya lose some.

Organize things. Buy office supplies I don't need. Paint stripes on my fingernails. Learn “Mixtape” on piano. Paint flowers and vines on my bathroom walls. Watch Disney movies. Youtube, facebook, xkcd. Read – a lot. Hem pants. Write bad songs, and then trash them. Make plans with friends and then wait for them to cancel at the last minute. Play wii.

This, in a paragraph, has been my Christmas break. I'm ready for classes to start again, so I won't have any spare time.

Tom, you should do the indievisual project of a drawing a day!

& in my spare time I make jewelry and other things with recycled materials (:

When I have time to waste at home, I'll try on a piece on clothing I don't like and create an outfit around it. If I'm anywhere else, I'll study people's clothing to get ideas.

I like to learn how to play various instruments in my spare time, infact i've set myself a challenge to learn as many musical instruments by the end of the year.
So far ive picked up the harmonica, melodica, penny whistle and the stylophone.
I would include the ukulele but ive been playing that for four years so i guess that doesnt count xD

Oh and I like to write poems.

Nothing to do with drawing, im useless at it, though i wish i was good at it :(

Oh and Tom i cant wait for the UK tour, if you manage to come to anywhere in the Midlands area i will be there front row centre! :L

draw all over my walls, write poetry and contemplate whether or not it is a good idea to submit it to my school's literary magazine, play my various instruments, create elaborate fantasies involving robots and my gym class…you know, average shit like that.

I'm pretty much just lazy and don't do much in my spare time. I can't get the motivation to do anything when I have a moment. It's sad… because pretty much all of my moments are spare these days now that I'm jobless.

What do I do in my spare time? Music. Listening to it, playing it, singing along to it. Writing it. I may not be a GOOD musician, but it's something I absolutely love to do.

But if all that fails? I read. Or draw. I'm a wierd-o. P=

it is lovely to find another Daniel Clowes fan, you are the only one I am aware of besides myself. I have read Ghost World about 40 times, and have seen the film at least 12 (I can never get over how well cast it was, everyone looked like the drawings brought to life). He is so clever, and terribly underrated.

In my spare time, i generally like to just listen to music, if i can't get on the computer. That, and draw intricate designs on my hand that will probably lead to skin cancer…(dailybooth.com/vanillaxsmoke/2465546, if you're curious) and reading, i like reading ^_^

READ EVERYTHING
WRITE ANYTHING
LONGBOARD
PAINT CRAPPY WATERCOLORS
TRY NEW THINGS
MAKE BAD DECISIONS WITH HORRIBLE WOMEN

It's a good life, if you're strong enough.

P.S. Ghost world is the only thing I think I've ever read where the film was equally valid while being neither better or worse on account of the character smooshing (Steve Buscemi is, like, three dudes in one if I recall) and general re-writing.

I usually have rehearsal for a play (as I am constantly asked by friends to do lights or something) otherwise I have schoolwork. Or I browse the Internet looking for new and interesting things to learn.

I like to do nothing with my free time, because other wise it would be another time, not free time. I find starring out into the distance quite relaxing, most times this doesn't last but 5 minutes so when I get free time I find nothing enjoyable.

i don't really play anything besides your songs and my one composition on piano, sad isn't it.
i think you should do a video on how you write a song, it would help me, anyway ;]

I waste my life online, I talk to people a thousand miles from me, and I draw. I can't say I sing in my spare time because I sing in my all time. I used to read, but I don't enjoy anything enough to have that attention span anymore.
I listen to a lot of music. Even try to make some. Fail in my endeavours. Write.
Compose comments on blogs, sometimes. Become embarrassed. Post.

Mainly I just waste away my time. I don't do homework even when I really should. And when I really should sleep I'm usually trying to be productive. Strange isn't it? I think the night just agrees with me. Also, if I must conform with every other artistic person that enjoys your blogs, I suppose I'll include guitar, piano, saxophone, reading, attempting to write novels (I usually only get 20 pages in, much like your comics it seems), and submerging myself in various artists and musicians to inspire me. Also, just wanted to compliment you on your new album, good stuff, buying it tomorrow prably. Keep up the good work!

Also. Music i'm listening to, Faunts. Check it out, you might like it. Kind of your style but darker/more digital delay ect.

Seems to me that A) you attract the female artistic crowd more than any other demographic, and B) you have too many projects.
Unfortunately I am unable to break the chain of artistic females, (curse you, ovaries and breasts!) so I too read large novels and write unseemly short stories. Can't say I do much music composing though, I'm a drummer. And we all know that (insert one of the millions of drummer jokes here) eh?

I don't play an instrument, mainly because I'm not clever enough, besides the recorder, and I can't even do that very well :D
But what I do like to do is create various comics/doujinshi that I never see through because as soon as I start one I think of another that I ABOSOLUTLY HAVE TO DO RIGHT AWAY and completely forget about the former and it just gets put asside bless it.

draw… when I can… usually based on songs. Or else I’ll read or fiddle in poetry but I generally have a hard time making sense of my abstract words and come up with something odd and not always comprehendible…
